Ballarat educators came together for Flare Literacy Professional Learning Day
More than 200 educators from eight Catholic primary schools gathered at St Thomas More Primary School, Ballarat, on 1 September 2026 as part of Flare Primary Literacy, DOBCEL's long-term literacy improvement strategy.
Teachers, principals and support staff participated in a day of professional learning focused on evidence-based practices that strengthen reading and writing outcomes for students. Sessions explored structured literacy, explicit instruction, assessment, data-informed teaching and strategies to support learners through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
The event also showcased new literacy resources and DOBCEL's Literacy Data Tool, helping schools use student data more effectively to guide instruction.
The collaborative day supported schools in implementing Flare's literacy improvement approach and reinforced a shared commitment to ensuring every student becomes a confident reader, writer and learner.
