Bishop Paul Bird

Bishop Paul was ordained Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat in 2012. Born in Newcastle, NSW Bishop Paul has been the Provincial leader, Australian province of the Redemptorist Congregation, Member of the provincial council of the Australian province of the Redemptorist Congregation, Member of the provincial council of the Australian province of the Redemptorist Congregation, Director of Redemptorist Publications Australia and Coordinator of programs for community education and development in Christian living in various Catholic parishes throughout Australia.

Mr Eugene Dalton

With over 43 years of dedicated service in Catholic education, Eugene Dalton has held various leadership roles including teacher, principal, and Acting Consultant. He has served as Principal at St Thomas’ School in Terang, St Mary’s in Hamilton, and Our Lady Help of Christians in Warrnambool. Eugene holds a Diploma of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education, and a Certificate of Theology. Prior to becoming Chair, Eugene was a Director, Chair of the Learning & Teaching Consultative Committee and a member of the Children & Young People, Safeguarding & Wellbeing Consultative Committee.

Ms Anne Pekin

Anne is a Senior Nurse working at Western District Health Services in Hamilton. Anne is an outgoing member of the BDSAC and has a son who formerly attended Monivae College, Hamilton. 

Mr Stephen McArdle CA/CPA

Stephen has practised in Ballarat as a public accountant for forty years. He is a former chair of the CEOB Audit & Risk Committee and the Loreto College Ballarat Finance Committee, and is a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee.

Monsignor Glynn Murphy OAM

Glynn is a priest of the Ballarat Diocese, having been ordained in 1983. He has also supported Army Chaplaincy in Reservist and full-time duties since 1986, recently completing service as Director General – Chaplaincy for the Australian Army. He is a canon lawyer, having gained his qualifications from St Paul Pontifical University, Ottawa, Canada in 1989.

Fr John Fitzgerald

John was ordained a priest for the Ballarat Diocese in 1978. He has served in a number of parishes in the Diocese and following his studies at Fordham University, New York, where he graduated with a Master of Arts, John became the Director of Religious Education in the Diocese. He was appointed Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Warrnambool in 2004 and is now the Moderator of the new Star of the Sea Parish (South West Coast) since its formation.

Mr Barry Bennett

Barry has an extensive background in risk, assurance and compliance. Now retired, his career started in law enforcement where he was a member of the Corporate Fraud Squad in the South Australian Police Force. This was followed by over 25 years experience in senior executive risk and assurance positions with national corporates. He was also the principal of his own risk management consultancy, focusing on corporate and strategic risk management.

Bernadette Lynch

Bernadette brings 40 years of experience to Catholic education, including classroom teaching, Religious Education leadership, advisory roles, and tertiary education. Beginning as a primary school classroom teacher and also serving as a Religious Education Leader, in both Melbourne and Ballarat schools. she spent 10 years as a Religious Education Advisor with Catholic Education Ballarat. She is also a sessional lecturer in Religious Education and Theology at Australian Catholic University, ACU. Prior to joining the board Bernadette held a dual role of Parish Coordinator and Religious Education Leader at St Aloysius Redan.
