National Child Protection Week
National Child Protection Week 2026 will run on 6-12 September 2026, and is coordinated by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN).
The week raises awareness of the community’s collective response to the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people, now and into the future, and champions the message ‘protecting children is everyone’s business.’
This year’s theme – ‘Every conversation matters, shifting conversation to action’ – highlights that, while discussions are crucial, dialogue must translate to meaningful action to ensure that every child feels heard, and experiences real safety, care and protection.
The focus on action aligns with the Child Safe Standards, particularly:
- Standard 3: Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
- Standard 4: Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
- Standard 8: Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 1: Culturally Safe Environments - a practical session
How do we move from compliance to meaningful practice when it comes to cultural safety? Join us for an interactive professional learning session focused on Child Safe Standard 1: Culturally Safe Environments.
This practical and applied session will explore real-world scenarios, helping schools translate the requirements of Child Safe Standard 1 into everyday actions that promote inclusion, respect and cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. Participants will also be introduced to practical resources, tools and supports to strengthen their school’s approach and implementation.
