How SWPBS Helps Prevent Bullying- System Initiative for the next 3 year
Explicit Teaching of Expected Behaviour
Students are taught what respectful, safe, and inclusive behaviour looks like. Rather than focusing solely on what students should not do, schools actively teach and model positive behaviours.
Data-Informed Decision Making
Schools use behaviour data, student voice, incident reports, and wellbeing information to identify patterns and trends. This helps schools target specific locations, times, or situations where bullying may be occurring, such as playgrounds, transition times, or online environments.
Recognition of Positive Behaviour
Schools intentionally acknowledge and celebrate acts of kindness, inclusion, empathy, and respect. Recognising positive behaviour encourages students to make safe and respectful choices and contributes to a positive school culture.
Consistent Whole-School Approach
All staff use common language, expectations, and responses to behaviour, creating a predictable and supportive learning environment where bullying is less likely to occur.
SWPBS supports bullying prevention by creating safe, predictable, and inclusive school environments where positive behaviours are explicitly taught, consistently reinforced, and supported through a tiered system of intervention.
