STEM MAD Showcase Celebrates Innovation with Purpose
A sense of pride and inspiration continues to resonate following the STEM MAD Showcase held at Damascus College last week, 13 August, where more than 300 students came together to share ideas, collaborate and present projects focused on making a positive difference in the world.
One of the most striking aspects of the event was the purpose behind each innovation. Students demonstrated not only creativity and problem-solving skills, but also a deep commitment to addressing real-world challenges through thoughtful, heart-centred solutions. Their projects reflected a genuine desire to improve the lives of others and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The showcase highlighted the extraordinary talent, curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit of students from across the Diocese. From initial ideas to research and prototypes, participants embraced the STEM MAD approach, combining science, technology, engineering and mathematics with a strong focus on service and social impact.
Adding to the significance of the event was the attendance of renowned educational leaders Coby Reynolds and Professor Pasi Sahlberg, who joined students, educators and community members in celebrating innovative learning and student-led problem solving. Their presence underscored the importance of empowering young people to think creatively, collaborate effectively and make a positive impact in the world.
Selecting winners proved a challenging task for the judges given the high calibre of projects on display. However, the event was a powerful reminder that every student who participated achieved something significant through their learning, collaboration and innovation.
