Designed with a strong connection to place, the new learning environments incorporate natural tones, warm textures and abundant natural light, reflecting the beauty of the surrounding region. Timber finishes and soft, earthy palettes create a calm and welcoming atmosphere, helping foster a strong sense of belonging for students, staff and families.
A key feature of the design is the inclusion of purposeful collaboration areas that support flexible and engaging learning. These shared spaces enable teamwork, creativity and small group instruction, while allowing teachers to adapt learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students.
Among the artifacts displayed for the occasion was the community cross, a beautiful artwork created by St Mary’s teacher Toni Stockwell. Featuring natural elements such as flowers, sticks and leaves, each piece was offered by a student and carried its own special meaning. Together, the artwork tells the story of the students and the school, showing how individual contributions, while unique, are united in creating something beautiful.
Principal Roxanne Leed said the new facilities represent an important investment in the future of St Mary’s students and community.
“These new learning spaces have transformed the way we teach and learn at St Mary’s. They are welcoming, flexible and designed to support every student to thrive,” Ms Leed said.
“Our intention was to create environments that are not only contemporary but deeply connected to our local landscape and community. The use of natural materials, light and space helps foster a sense of belonging, while our new collaborative areas are already supporting teamwork, creativity and student voice in meaningful ways.”
DOBCEL Executive Director Tom Sexton said the investment reflects a shared commitment to delivering modern learning environments across the Diocese.
“Projects like this ensure our schools can continue to provide engaging and modern learning environments that meet the needs of today’s students and also consider future generations,” Mr Sexton said.
Constructed by Q Constructions and designed by Law Architects, the project commenced in July 2024 and was completed in June 2025. The completed facilities will serve the St Mary’s community for years to come, supporting contemporary learning in an environment that reflects the school’s identity, values and aspirations.
