Students and staff at Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School Wendouree have embraced newly refurbished learning spaces as a major $2.45 million building project nears completion.
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison MP visited the school this week to view the extensive refurbishment works and meet with members of the school community. The visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand the transformation of learning areas and student amenities ahead of an anticipated official opening later this year.
Supported by $2.4 million through the Victorian Government’s Building Fund for Non-Government Schools – Catholic stream, along with a $50,000 contribution from the school, the project has delivered fully refurbished learning areas, upgraded student amenities, and important maintenance works designed to support quality learning for generations to come.
Principal Jaci Commons said the redevelopment marks an exciting milestone for the school community.
“These new learning spaces will make such a positive difference for our students and staff, providing calm, contemporary and thoughtfully designed environments that support strong teaching, learning and wellbeing,” Ms Commons said.
Designed around the Science of Learning and Cognitive Load Theory, the refreshed learning environments maximise natural light and minimise visual clutter, creating spaces that help students focus and thrive. New teaching walls, integrated technology, and improved acoustics further enhance teaching and learning experiences across the school.
The redevelopment also includes audio technology in new learning spaces to support students with hearing requirements and improve teacher voice projection, upgraded student amenities designed for privacy and comfort, and outdoor works as part of the project's final stages.
During the visit, students Nina Polidano and Maverick Ryan proudly guided Ms Addison through the new facilities, sharing what they love most about their school. Nina said she loves everything about Our Lady’s, while Maverick was quick to nominate “the teachers!” as his favourite part of school life.
Construction commenced at the beginning of 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of July, delivering contemporary learning environments that will support student achievement, wellbeing, and connection for many years to come.
