New learning facilities officially opened at St Augustine’s Primary School, Creswick

St Augustine’s Primary School, Creswick has officially opened its new learning facilities, marking an exciting milestone for the school community and its future.

The Hon Catherine King MP, joined students, staff and community members to officially open the building and unveil the commemorative plaque. The new facilities were also blessed by Father Marcello, recognising the significance of the moment in the life of the school.

Supported by the Australian Government’s Capital Grants Program, the $3.6 million project has transformed the school’s learning environment, delivering contemporary spaces that bring together student wellbeing, connection and high-quality learning.

Designed to be calm, welcoming and filled with natural light, the new and refurbished areas support a range of learning experiences. Students can now move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor environments, encouraging both structured teaching and inquiry-based learning.

The development includes modern general learning areas, a dedicated multidisciplinary centre and upgraded administration and staff facilities. These spaces not only enhance student learning but also support staff collaboration, professional practice and wellbeing.

Importantly, the project honours the rich history of St Augustine’s. The school’s entrance has been reoriented to face Church Street, as originally intended when the school was established in 1855, while thoughtful design features ensure the past remains part of the present. Among these is the original fireplace, uncovered during construction and retained in the prep classroom – ready for Santa’s annual visit.

Principal Michael Heenan said the new facilities reflect the school’s commitment to creating environments where every child can thrive.

“This is an exciting new chapter for St Augustine’s. The new spaces are calm, welcoming and full of light, and they’re already changing the way our students learn and play – moving easily from the classroom to the outdoor areas and back again,” Mr Heenan said.

The project stands as a testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships, thoughtful design and a shared commitment to student success.

DOBCEL congratulates Principal Michael Heenan and the entire St Augustine’s school community on this significant milestone.
